Deschutes River Camp Trips

Originating on the southern slopes of Mt. Bachelor, the Deschutes River starts as a meadow spring creek in an alpine setting.  As the river flows north, it transforms into a large tailwater fishery that flows through a picturesque desert canyon before merging with the Columbia.  There are thriving fisheries for the indigenous redband rainbow trout and summer/fall steelhead.  Fishing is a year round endeavor on the Lower Deschutes, however the guiding season begins in earnest in May with the famed stonefly hatch.  Caddis and mayfly hatches provide the action as summer sets in.  Trout average 12-16 inches with fish to 20 inches available.  Steelhead begin to arrive in July and by August the fishery is in full swing in the lowest sections of river. Fresh steelhead will continue to trickle in all the way through December.  These summer run fish average 4-10 pounds and respond well to swung flies.  Two-handed (Spey) rods are the preferred method for presenting flies to steelhead on such a large river.

The best way to experience the Deschutes River is on a multi-day camp trip.  Our camp trips cover 25-45 miles of river over the course of three to five days.  We float sections of river that are roadless and largely inaccessible except by boat.  As a result, there is far less fishing pressure than other sections of the river.  In addition to great fishing, the scenery and wildlife in the canyon is remarkable.  Camp accommodations are top-notch and very comfortable even in inclement weather.  Gourmet meals are prepared from scratch by our camp host/chef every day using the best ingredients available.  Any diet can be accommodated including vegetarian/vegan and gluten free.

Pricing includes professional guides/staff, streamside camp accommodations, meals and snacks beginning with lunch the first day and concluding with lunch on your last day, non-alcoholic beverages.  If needed, rods/reels/flies can be provided as well.

Trip prices do not include:  Oregon fishing license with appropriate validations, Warm Springs tribal permit (if applicable to your trip), alcoholic beverages and staff gratuity.
